When my boy, not much older than this one, begged me to quit smoking, I did. All it took were these words: “Mommy, who’s going to love me if you die?”

My son as a young lad and me a single parent, would come home from school and go on about my smoking and saying things like this, who will cook my meals if something happens to you, who will take me to hockey practice, who will help me with my homework, who will look after me. On and on. Yes, I quit… had to take his concerns seriously. That happened many years ago…I am a healthy senior and my son never smoked. Thank you for reminded me of this. It is so important. It was his grade 6 teacher who kept up this smoking issue which transferred to the kids in the class and no doubt brought it home to those parents who smoked. Good for her.
