Wildrose leader Danielle Smith’s hidden agenda
Here is Alberta’s Wildrose leader Danielle Smith:
“…abortions are a horrific practice… Any politician who challenges the status quo gets pilloried by the media, abortion-rights groups and opposing politicians…the taxpayer should not be on the hook to pay for it.” Windsor Star, December 4, 2000
This is the same Danielle Smith who, last month, declared she was “pro-choice.”
The very same Danielle Smith who refuses to answer questions about abortion on the campaign trail. (Taking a page out of Tim Hudak’s play book, I guess.)
Except now Smith also refuses to clearly state her position on abortion delisting. Yet her CAO, just a few days ago, clearly stated that the Wildrose Party “favours having a referendum on delisting.”
In responding to this claim, Smith said that citizens would have the ability to “force a province wide vote on public funding for abortion.”
Smith dodges and waffles and equivocates on the abortion issue – not a good idea while on the campaign trail (ask Tim Hudak how that worked out). But at the end of the day, unfortunately, provincial governments do have the power and ability to limit women’s access to abortion services. Just ask those in PEI.
Great spin. Smith isn’t suggesting that access be limited, just that taxpayers shouldn’t have to fund it. Using your logic, my access to food and clothing is limited because I have to pay for it myself. Too bad votes can’t be pro-rated based on the intelligence of the voter.
